Happy new year everybody! We hope you had a wonderful new years with lots to eat and drink.
Recovering from New years and with our little man at babysat for the day, it was a date day for John & I. This was our second time back to Greenhouse and I must say I was thoroughly impressed this time around than our first.
As it was around the Christmas season, most of the restaurants in the city were closed. I really wanted to take John to one of the restaurants at Brookfield place but they were all shut.
We walked past Greenhouse and it was open. Although we were a bit hesitant as our last visit we weren’t very impressed, we thought we would give it another go. I’m glad we did as we had a much better experience this time around.
If you haven’t been to Greenhouse before, it is incredibly funky. There’s a great use of wooden materials inside combined with a very modern, hipster like interior.
Just about everything in the Greenhouse is sustainable and made from some type of recycled material. It gives the whole place a very rustic, earthy vide. And let’s not forget the rooftop bar which looks like it’s covered in vines amid twinkling lights. I love it.
It was a rather busy lunch time crowd even though many people are probably on holidays but we managed to snag a seat at the bar. Once we ordered our meals, a serve of their homemade bread was given to us along with homemade butter too. Greenhouse mills their own flour and bakes their own bread so you can imagine the bread being delicious.
I decided to try their pizza of the day which was the prosciutto, parmesan and rocket. It flavours are pretty classic but the base was actually really good especially when they mill their own flour. It gave the pizza a very rustic feel and taste too.
We also went with their pasta of the day which was homemade fettuccini with slow cooked beef cheeks in a thick tomato ragu. It was a winner dish with the beef cheeks just falling apart.
The desert was definitely my favourite dish of our lunch! It was white chocolate parfait with a salted caramel ice cream and honeycomb, hazelnuts and chocolate crumbs! I could have licked the plate if I was allowed it, it was that good! That white chocolate parfait wasn’t sweet but it was creamy and went so perfectly with that smooth salted caramel ice cream topped off with bits of honeycomb, hazelnuts and chocolate crunchy bits!
Greenhouse, this time around was very pleasant experience. Fantastic food, good service and we had such a lovely afternoon. Please note, it does get busy so best to book if possible. We’ll definitely will be back to maybe try their breakfast menu.
On the whole, 9 for food quality, 8 ½ for pricing ($80 for meal with a couple of drinks), 8 ½ for atmosphere and 8 ½ for service.
