Being in the city today for work and was looking for something to have for lunch. Audrey had told me about this sushi place that had recently opened up and I have walked past it a couple of times so I thought I would go and try it out.
Iku Sushi is located in the stylish one40william building in the city and is close to the train station and the new Herdsman grocery store. The interior is cool and funky much like the modern sushi places that you would find in Toyko. This modern and extremely brightly coloured eatery serves up sushi with a difference. You can purchase prepared sushi which are individually wrapped from the refrigerators or you can order hot meals which are the usual Teriyaki chicken or beef bentos and udon noodle soup. Bored with your usual California roll for lunch? I got to try their signature sushi roll which is a chicken cheeseburger sushi roll.
What is the chicken cheeseburger sushi roll, you may ask? It is a chicken cheese filling wrapped with seaweed then rolled with sushi rice, then covered with tempura batter then deep fried. Yes, deep fried! Not the healthiest of sushi but absolutely delicious. Along with the sushi, you get a serve of spicy creamy Japanese mayonnaise. I didn’t think the roll was going to be massive so again my eyes were bigger than my tummy and also ordered their kaarage chicken. Bite size chicken pieces coated with batter and deep fried then topped with a dash of ponzu sauce, salad and a side of Japanese mayonnaise.
Interesting lunch for me but I did enjoy it even though I didn’t finish the kaarage at all. So if you’re working in the city and want to try something different, why not give Iku Sushi a go.
