After brunch at Welcome Inn, John wanted a coffee so we stopped over at Frisk Espresso for a quick caffeine fix.
Don’t let the fact Frisk is perched between a badly themed ‘sports bar’ and a pub with a large grey mammal in its name deter you, this place is rad. Owner Michael has scoured endless op shops, antique stores and even pilfered some furniture from his own home to furnish the store, with a feature wall dedicated to showcasing local graffiti. With a new trend in Perth for late night coffee bars, Frisk is definitely the new kid on the block. Frisk means to “play boisterously’, and Michael encourages people to do just that – play. It reminds me very much of when I was at uni and my friends and I used to love hanging out at cafes late into the night playing cards. Much in the same fashion at Leederville’s Greens & Co, patrons can just hangout and keep themselves busy with playing games like Jenga and Connect Four. It has such a quirky, recycled feel that attracts a unique clientele of backpackers, Northbridge locals, and professionals. It is a destination that provides a haven for those wanting an early morning coffee while checking emails with free Wi Fi or having a casual meeting. I absolute love that Frisk is filled with urban art and dinky old items like a cash register, red telephone, lamps and other bits and bops.
The coffee is great (yes!), there’s a big range of tea and Frisk have teamed up with Perth’s latest miniature cake sensation, Kustom Kupcakes, who will have a dedicated stand. We bought a couple of cupcakes home to try them out which were delicious. The two that we bought were cookies & cream and strawberry cupcakes. The cookies and cream one was delightful, soft and fluffy sponge cupcake topped with a not too sweet icing and a small slice of cookies & cream bar. You can also pre-order cupcakes if you like to be picked up at the shop or delivered to your choice of destination.
If you’re hungry and you want something more substantial, then there are a variety of cakes, cupcakes, toasted sandwiches and other drinks on offer and what’s great about Frisk is that they are available until late at night.
Frisk has an awesome and funky ambience with friendly staff and from what i hear from John, great coffee! So if you’re out and about on a Saturday night and want somewhere for a quick caffeine fix, then check Frisk out. I’m sure it’s opened and will also help filled that tummy of yours at the same time.
After coffee, we took a stroll down to WA Museum for a wonder. We had an awesome morning hanging out with each other and what a way to start Sunday morning.
