Having a date day with the husband as we were both on leave from work, we decided to go on a day trip up to Yanchep. On the way up there, we decided to stop by in Mindarie for lunch and found Portofinos Cafe Quinns Beach.
As the Indian Ocean looms in the distance and the sun sets upon the broad horizon, Portofinos Quinns Beach gives diners a front row seat to these beautiful sights. Hidden away at Quinns Beach, this snazzy cafe is a more informal version of the original Portofinos in Hillarys Boat Harbour, though the focus remains centered squarely on fresh Mediterranean cuisine. The café is the less formal compared to the Portofino restaurant located next door and offers light lunches, pizzas, pasta and heart main meals. The huge windows give patrons beautiful views of Perth’s beaches and allow natural light into the café.
The café was busy and provides a rather informal dinning with indoor and outdoor dining options along with a playground for kids. It has a great family vibe to the place. We had to order at the counter which was already forming a line. We thought we would have to wait for ages for the meals to be served. We ordered salt & pepper calamari rings with grapefruit, tomato and avocado salad and prosciutto with mushroom, eggplant, olives, basil and feta pizza. Surprising, the meals were served in about 10 minutes and again surprising the meals tasted much better than we thought.
The salt and pepper calamari was fantastic, the calamari was coated with a light salt and pepper batter which was full of flavour. The grapefruit, tomato and avocado salad was delightful and refreshing, perfect with the calamari. The pizza was delicious too, thin crust and just the right amount of topping. The only dig that we had was the eggplant. John doesn’t like eggplant on pizza much like pineapple shouldn’t be on pizza. The meal cost us $50 along with a bottle of sparkling water and beer for John.
On the whole, Portofinos was a lovely family café and surprised us with its lovely meal. It was a great way for us to spend the afternoon and fill out tummies before an afternoon on the beach.
On the whole, 8 for the food quality, 8 for the atmosphere, 8 for service and 8 for pricing.
